Quantity vs. Quality
It's an age old problem.
Do you buy something inexpensive that will get the job done, but has to be replaced quite often, or buy something significantly more expensive that will last much, much longer? A comparison might be buying a Fiat vs. a BMW or a Hyundai vs. a Mercedes.
Do you buy something of good quality like a Seiko or Citizen watch that is moderately expensive, or do you buy something of very, very good quality like a Rolex or Tag Heuer?
For me those comparisons align well with some of my theories of fishing for carp.
Do you use an inexpensive, but effective bait for catching carp like Panko and corn, or do you fish with boilies and a concoction of particles? Both catch fish, but some feel it's a matter of more fish vs. bigger fish.
There's another variable for carp fishing that makes this scenario a little more interesting - are you fishing in a habitat that has big fish? If the answer is yes, then fishing with inexpensive corn will still catch big fish.
Another way of looking at it -
Would you rather catch 10 or 15 fish with the chance of one or two big fish or catch 4 or 5 fish with one or two big fish?
I know which option I prefer! More is always better in my book.

Vomit Corn for Carp Fishing
9/29/14 Update: I tested the "vomit" corn on one rod. I put it straight on the hair rig and used the same Panko and cream corn pack bait that I always use. I didn't get any activity on that rod at all, until I switched it back to my normal flavored pineapple flavored corn I always use.
I boiled up some corn several months ago with intentions to use it in my Panko ground bait this summer. I failed to realize how far a 5 gallon bucket will go for carp bait. I still have 2 1/2 gallons of the boiled corn. It's starting to stink something fierce.
I've been reading online about using "vomit" corn for carp fishing. The boiled corn I made is starting to stink so badly it does in fact smell like vomit at this point. So it ought to be very productive as carp bait at this point, if that is a legitimate qualifier. We'll find out tomorrow.
I have another day off from work and will spend it at a local lake enjoying this early fall weather. I plan to use the corn on a hair rig exclusively on 1 rod. If that rod catches carp, then I'll consider the experiment a success. If I catch carp on the other rods, but not on the "vomit" corn, I'll consider the experiment inconclusive pending further testing.
Wish me luck.

2nd Best Reason I Started Catching More Carp
When I started researching carp fishing on the internet and the Carp Anglers Group discussion board, I read a lot about using boilies for catching carp. I had no idea what a boilie was, but I ordered some anyway. The first carp I ever caught was with a pineapple boilie in fact.
But when I switched to pineapple maize, I started catching more fish.
I purchased a 40 pound sack of field corn from Gander Mountain earlier this year and have boiled about 20 pounds of it up to use in my ground bait mixes. I don't know about infusing the flavor into the corn yet, but I am pretty confident that I could use the boiled corn on my hair rig and catch fish. If I try it at some point I will do it in small batches and soak it in flavoring under refrigeration. I am sure it's not quite the same as the vacuum seal you get from "commercial canning", but I might try it sometime.
