World Classic Baits Order

I have been holding off on placing an order for carp bait supplies while checking out different options. I could not resist any longer and placed an order with World Classic Baits for supplies for upcoming sessions.

I have been using pineapple and 4 season flavors successfully for a couple of years. This year I am going to add peach to the mix and try the new 3D selects as well.

I'll report back on how it turns out after a few sessions.

Fourth Tip for Catching More Carp

Last year I used to mix up my ground bait for a carp fishing session before leaving the house. I mixed 2 TBSP's per can of cream corn. Also, I used to mix up 2lbs. of oatmeal all at one time. Needless to say it dried out, before the session ended.

This year I have been mixing my flavors into my ground bait after arriving at my favorite fishing spots. I mix it in smaller batches, which reduces the tendency to dry out. I've also been using much more flavoring per can of cream corn. I think the smaller batches creates more intensity of flavor in the ground bait as well.

I firmly believe this small change in methodology has added several more carp to my fishing totals in 2014.

Flavor Testing

A little guy
I've been fishing exclusively for carp during the last 12 months. Until last weekend I had always used a flavor dip on my hook bait immediately prior to casting. I used both pineapple and fruity flavored dips. Since I have always used them I was unsure whether not using them would cause my fish count to decrease.

For Sunday's session I omitted the dip flavoring in favor of a pineapple amino flavor spray. The spray is convenient and doesn't create the mess that the dip does, which is more of a syrup. But would it work just as well?

I caught 9 carp in 5 hours. The last time I fished that venue I caught 13 carp in 7 hours. The syrup flavor dip yielded 1.86 carp per hour of fishing. The spray flavoring yielded 1.8 carp per hour. I'd call that a very similar comparison.

The sample size is still relatively small. It would be interesting to do the same test over a time span of 24 hours or 100 hours of fishing and see if the ratios remain the same.

Big Carp Tackle and Carp Bait Order

Yesterday I put together an order of carp fishing supplies from BigCarpTackle.com. Hooks, a landing mat, some new alarms, and a Korda Rig Safe Storage Box are headed my way. Next on my list I need to put together a bait order.

Last year I fished pineapple flavors exclusively. I used pineapple maize, pineapple dip, pineapple in my ground bait, pineapple boilies and pineapple booster. This year I am thinking about changing it up a little bit.

I am thinking about trying to switch up my flavors based on the time of year. For example:

  • Crayfish in spring
  • 4 Season and Scopex in summer
  • Pineapple in fall
I don't know how much flavor really matters, but I know that pineapple works fairly well through out the year. It will always be my fall back plan, because I have a lot of confidence in it. Now I need to gain some confidence in some other flavor strategies.

For my ground bait I am going to switch over to a butternut flavor, which I think will pair fairly well with the Scopex.

I have fished boilies on a limited basis up to now and I don't know if I'll change how often I fish with boilies. It's a confidence thing. I have confidence in flavored maize, but for me the boilies are still a work in progress.
